Know Your Pests
The key to controlling pests is knowing which species and subspecies is threatening the integrity of your living space. Here are some quick images and tips to help you decide which pest is trying to set up shop in your home.
Termites vs. Carpenter Ants. This image will help you tell the differences between ant and termite drones. Drones are flying male ants or termites, they usually appear for a few days in the spring when the queen is mating. While the drones are not dangerous, they don’t sting or bite, but they are often the first visual clue that an invasion has begun.
Bees vs. wasps, hornets and yellow jackets. Both bees and wasps are among the most beneficial of all living creatures, at least as far as humans are concerned. Bees, of course, provide honey and are essential for pollination of many flowering plants. Wasps and hornets help control many of the insect pests that damage crops and wildlife. Unfortunately, both bees and wasps sting to protect themselves and their nests.
Rats and mice are harmful to us in two ways: they and their parasites (fleas and ticks) are carriers of a wide range of diseases, and they attack our food supply. Solving the rodent problem was the key to the wealth and stability of the ancient Egyptian empire.
